our story
Al is the Founder and owner of Station 14 Functional Functional Fitness.
Al has been an operational firefighter since 2010 and has always been very passionate about fitness.
From a very young age Al trained in Karate with his dad and brother, and as he got older started Thai boxing, and then in his early 20’s, he got into weightlifting, where his ambition was to get as strong as possible. Once Al joined the fire service he very quickly realised that just being strong was not enough. He also needed an engine to move that strength in order to carry out his duties to the best of his abilities. This is when Al started crossfit. “For me, it was just the perfect combination of strength, speed and stamina. Sure, lots of people can deadlift 200kg, but could they do it straight after a 5k row?”
Al loved functional fitness so much he wanted to learn how coach others and teach them how to get the same fulfilment and results he did. So that’s exactly what he did. He started small, opening ‘The Vault Fitness Center’ in Howden, East Yorkshire, and then, when the time was right, moving on to his ultimate goal, going much bigger and better, with Station 14 CrossFit in Goole.
Al can be seen daily, coaching individual athletes and group classes at Station 14. Personally Al prefers an AMRAP type workout with lots of weight lifting and gymnastic movements.
And above all else, he is a proud father of his three beautiful children, Reece, Lucy and Jake.
